One Day to Go…

Tomorrow is the big day for being on TV… (If you want to how I tumbled into a TV segment check out my last post). I’d like to say I’ve got nerves of steel but let’s be real it’s more like nerves of Twizzlers. So let’s take a moment and talk a bit about stress.

“I was a little excited but mostly blorft. “Blorft” is an adjective I just made up that means ‘Completely overwhelmed but proceeding as if everything is fine and reacting to the stress with the torpor of a possum.’ I have been blorft every day for the past seven years.”      ― Tina Fey, Bossypants

Stress management is on most peoples minds and I find, for myself, it’s often a matter of perspective. If I’m so consumed and focused on “making it” than those thoughts overtake my life. They don’t let me enjoy the other blessings in life which is mentally crippling.

So I won’t obsess. If I start to do so I refocus by playing with my kids, reading my Bible, or getting outdoors. I focus on my blessings. I do this because it forces my mind to acknowledge that if this opportunity goes wrong I still will have these other amazing things. My little’s don’t care if I mess up my recipe, they are happy I cook. My garden will keep growing. The trees will keep swaying.

In the bigger picture what I’m obsessing over is small.

So pass the Twizzlers and wish me luck!

“In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.”
― Fred Rogers

Happy Questing!
