This little mini series is an attempt to help out my fellow parents who need ideas to break up the day. These ideas will be fast, adaptable, and hopefully use things you alread have on hand, all from home.
TRACK A PLANT’S GROWTH
I bought a hyacinth for Easter last week and it hadn’t started to bloom yet. So instead of keeping it to myself I took a sheet of paper and portioned it into six squares, I did this by folding the paper then tracing the creases. This exercise lasted a full week for us and we worked on our days of the week, drawing, and plant part identification in the process. You don’t have to make this educational but it added some fun to go with it.
You’ll need:
- A plant to track. This could be tree leaves coming out, a flower in your yard, or even some seeds you plant.
- A piece of paper and something to write with
Books that go with this theme:
- The Secret Garden by Burnett, A classic chapter book
- Plant the Tiny Seed by Matheson, A picture book
- Trees, Leaves, Flowers, & Seeds by Smithsonian, a non-fiction reference book
