Homemade BBQ Sauce Recipe

Before we get to the recipe I want you to go to your fridge and look at the ingredient list on the back of the BBQ sauce you have. The 1st listed ingredient is the highest amount in the bottle. I’m not sure about your bottle but the number one ingredient on mine is high fructose corn syrup and I about lost my mind. So the hunt for a BBQ sauce recipe was begun. That how I arrived at this recipe and I just had it with sautéed zucchini slices and it was so good I want more!

This was the EASIEST one pot canning I’ve ever done. I filled my crock pot with pureed ingredients and let it simmer uncovered all night long. A whole pot reduces down to 1/3 the original amount and it’s delicious. So without further ado here’s the recipe I used:

  • 1 crockpot full of tomatoes (you can puree all ingredients first or use a hand blender later, whatever you prefer).
  • 1/2 Cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 sweet apple chopped and cored
  • 1/2 Cup Apple cider vinager
  • 2 TBSP brown sugar
  • 2 TBSP molasses
  • 2 TBSP soy sauce
  • 1 TBSP smoked paprika
  • 1 TSP salt
  • 1/2 TSP pepper

Puree ingredients with hand blender and let cook on low in the crock pot until ingredients are reduced to 1/3 original amount. Water bath can to save for later.

Enjoy! Hannah
