Eating Raw in Costa Rica

I grew up on a fresh fruit and vegetable farm on the east side of Lake Michigan. The anticipation of picking and eating a self grown delectable meal is a way of life for me.

Market day in Costa Rica is a joy for my heart and soul as my eyes feast on the bright colors mingled with the smell of fresh cilantro and herbs.

As I walk down between the slap-dash canopies bargaining with the kind, hard-working Costa Rican farmers. I like to buy exotic fruits and green vegetables. These are usually fresher and less expensive than those sold from stores. Samples are readily given if you would like a taste first so don’t be afraid to ask.  In the city of San Jose you can find neighborhood markets Friday-Sunday, but go early to get the choice lots. Take a pull cart with you as the fruits can be heavy and there is foot traffic only during market days.

Happy eating!
