DIY Carpet Freshener

I’ve been slowly cutting out chemicals in our household. Not only is it safer but wow is it cheaper!

Cleaning green is not as hard as it sounds but does take a little more thought than buying something off the shelf. One of the things I like to use is carpet refresher but what’s exactly in that stuff? I have no idea do you? Our feet are one the fastest absorbing areas on our bodies. So walking around on unknown chemical substances for me and my family isn’t what I want.

Instead I made my own refresher with these simple, safe ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Cups Baking Soda
  • 10 drops of essential oil
  • Sugar shaker jar from the dollar store

Mix your baking soda and essential oil. There are plenty of varieties of oil out there and use something that you enjoy the smell of (I used lemongrass and eucalyptus). Put mix into the mason jar and seal it with your punched lid.

I use Young Living Oils because of the quality guarantee, you can find them here.

To use: Shake lightly across carpet and allow to sit for 5-8 minutes then vacuum up the mixture.

What wonderful essential oil scents do you enjoy in your home?

Happy Questing!
